Last night the three younger kids convinced me to buy a scarecrow at a local craft store while I was there picking up some fabric for a Girl Scout project for today's meeting. AJ was very proud of said scarecrow and carried him to the car for me. He strapped him in to L's seat (she was at dance class) and asked if I liked his new brother. Today we put the scarecrow in the garden and the kids named their new brother M......oddly enough that is my father's name. I was wondering how they came up with the name and was told "Because Grandpa M is a farmer and most scarecrows are on farms and he reminds us of Grandpa" And there you have it!

See any resemblances?????

Last evening, I had the privilege of being in the van with only A-girl and LJ. A-girl is usually able to hold her own in getting and keeping attention when all are present but it was interesting (and very entertaining) to have a conversation with just her as we were driving to pick up AJ from a play date. She was thinking a lot about phones and had many questions. She wondered if you could call someone if they didn't have a phone with them. I told her that would be difficult. As I tried to explain, I quickly realized she wasn't looking for my input and I was merely and audience for her "out loud thought processing." She wondered how someone could call you if you went on a walk without a cell phone. She concluded that it wouldn't work because you couldn't hear the phone ring. She then decided that if you were going for a walk close to your house, someone could call you on your phone at home and since you were close by you could hear it and then they could call you while out walking without a cell phone. I just love the logic of a four year old!

LJ is approaching twenty one months of age and is becoming quite the conversationalist. He has started stringing two to three single words together to express things but until last evening didn't really have a true "two word" sentence. Last night as I was getting him ready for bed he said "wee wee home" It took me a few moments to figure out what he was talking about and then I grabbed his toes and started "this little piggy goes to market....." which has become a regular in our bedtime routine. He laughed and got so excited. I don't recall the other children being as communicative as he is at this age. It is such a joy to watch him grow and learn. Typically younger siblings don't talk as much as the older ones talk for them and they often have no need to communicate with so many older siblings acting as caregivers. That coupled with boys typically developing language at a slower rate than girls and having AJ not really say anything til closer to three years of age, I just assumed that he would be slower to develop language skills. LJ is definitely showing us he is not going to follow the norm and he is going to hold his own as the youngest of four in this family.
