Six weeks ago, AJ stood quietly along the edge of the football field, uncertain he wanted to play, worried that he didn't know how to play and convinced he wasn't any good (he had never played before so it was hard to have already gained those skills he so desperately wanted). Within minutes, he was welcomed by his coach and teammates (he was the only kid there that didn't' already know some of the players) and was caught up in the thrill of the game. He has thoroughly enjoyed the past 6 weeks and has learned so much and gained so much confidence.
Today marked his final game of the season. I was able to watch his game this morning and then take him to the start of the pizza party and then Dad stayed for the parent/child football game and fun afterward while I took the other kids home to get ready for our party night (swim team party from 4-8 and Halloween party from 6 to 10 so we are showing up for bits of both as well as taking L to her friend's Halloween party from 6-8).
I noticed AJ seemed really sad about the end of the season, more so than I have ever noticed with the completion of his other team sport seasons. He seemed really bummed. S also noticed the same thing and commented on it. Our reluctant football player is already having withdrawal symptoms. It has been so much fun watching him struggle and grow and learn through the past six weeks. We are so proud of you buddy!
